FYI for people that don’t know the difference between wights and white walkers (the show makes them look the same, but they’re somewhat different).

The creature that Sam kills here is a wight. Wights are basically corpses reanimated by White Walkers. White Walkers kill everything in their path and turn them into wights. White Walkers are a humanoid race from the north believed to be extinct, but we know they aren’t. Their characteristics/weaknesses are similar, with wights being the servants/army of the White Walkers.
